Phase II - Mission Street Terrace

The Mission Street Terrace is a bare sunny plot located between the 8th grade classroom and Mission Street. Phase II construction will develop this area into a garden with year-round sun and improve the appearance of the Mission Street side of the school. The proposed plan includes:
  • new 6' high fences along the low railings to improve safety
  • 8+ large raised garden beds - theme gardens
  • garden mural on wall facing Mission St.
  • improvements to teaching area by 8th grade

Construction of the new garden is scheduled for Sunday, October 24, 2010 and Sunday, November 7, 2010.  See the News page for announcements.  Although the final plans for the work day are being drawn up, we anticipate the work will include:
  • weed, rake and haul away pine needles
  • grade and terrace the plots
  • design and lay drip irrigation
  • construct and install raised beds and garden tables
  • pickup, deliver, and spread topsoil
  • construct / repair tables in outdoor teaching area

Let us know if you would like to help out with construction, have pickup truck for hauling soil or debris or have special construction skills (carpentry, plumbing, etc.)

In addition, we will be purchasing lumber, garden and irrigation supplies, and topsoil. If you know people in the community that might be willing to provide materials or discounts on materials, please contact us. Talk to your class coordinator or the Life Lab committee - Chris Donohoe (lead for Phase II construction; 239-7911, lifelab@holycsc.org), Megan Grenier, Laura LeRoy, and Cindy Honey.

We wish to thank the supporters of the Life Lab Mother’s Day Sale and particularly the Parents Association for providing funds for these improvements.
